The Villa was commissioned by Agostino Chigi in
1508 to Baldassarre Peruzzi. The simple and harmonious design made
this one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance Villas. Peruzzi
frescoed some interiors himself. Later, Raphael and his pupils added
some works. In 1577 the Villa was bought by Cardinal Alessandro
Farnese.
