This area is completely
dominated by one of the seven hills of Rome, the Quirinale Hill,
where you can find the Opera House of Rome and the Quirinale
Palace, the old papal palace, later residence of the kings and
nowadays residence of the Italian President of the Republic.
The Quirinal hill is the highest and largest of the Rome’s
seven hills. The hill was the traditional home of the Sabines
and took its name from the cult of one of their gods, Quirinus.
Abandoned in the Middles Ages, the area reflourished in the
16th century. Noble families, such as Colonna and Aldobrandini,
decided to built their palaces on the hill.
